Tems Makes History as First Female African Artist to Earn RIAA Diamond Certification

Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems has reached another remarkable milestone in her career, becoming the first female African artist to receive an RIAA Diamond certification in the United States.

The historic achievement comes through “Wait For U,” her Grammy-winning collaboration with American rap stars Future and Drake. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awards Diamond certification to singles or albums that achieve 10 million certified units in the U.S., making it one of the music industry’s highest honors.

Released in 2022, Wait For U became an instant global hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart and earning widespread acclaim for its emotional lyrics and smooth blend of hip-hop and R&B. The song also won the Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance, further cementing its place in modern music.

Tems has continued to break barriers for African artists on the global stage. From collaborating with some of the world’s biggest musicians to earning Grammy recognition and now achieving Diamond status, she has become one of the most influential voices in contemporary music.

Fans across Africa and around the world have celebrated the milestone, praising Tems for inspiring a new generation of artists and proving that African talent continues to shape the global music industry.

This latest accomplishment marks another defining moment in Tems’ career and further strengthens her legacy as one of Africa’s most successful international music stars.
