The Navy SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden has revealed the special gift he gave the \u201cbadass\u201d CIA analyst who spent years hunting down the world\u2019s most wanted terrorist<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under orders from then-President Barack Obama, U.S. intelligence agencies and elite military forces carried out the mission that finally cornered the al Qaeda leader inside a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, on May 2, 2011.<\/p>\n

At the center of the\u00a0intelligence<\/a>\u00a0effort was a determined CIA analyst from a group informally known as \u201cThe Sisterhood,\u201d a team of women analysts who helped piece together the clues that led to bin Laden\u2019s hiding place.<\/p>\n

Former\u00a0SEAL<\/a>\u00a0Team Six member Robert O\u2019Neill, now 50, shared new details about the mission during a recent interview, including the moment he handed the analyst a deeply personal keepsake after the raid was over.<\/p>\n

\u2018One-way mission\u2019 to kill bin Laden<\/h2>\n

As the SEALs prepared to fly into Pakistan, O\u2019Neill said everyone involved understood the mission could easily end in death instead of a return home.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were going after bin Laden for the first Americans who were forced to fight al Qaeda, to the death, toe-to-toe,\u201d O\u2019Neill told the\u00a0New York Post<\/a>. \u201cThis would be a one-way mission. You\u2019re not afraid you\u2019re gonna die, but you\u2019re prepared for death.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the SEALs were loaded with confidence as the CIA analyst supported their efforts with her precision and command of the intelligence surrounding the compound.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lead CIA analyst who found bin Laden was this badass, no-nonsense woman,\u201d he said. \u201cShe walked us through how she found him and what we could expect when we got to his compound in minute detail.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pre-mission jitters<\/h2>\n

Just before boarding the helicopter for Abbottabad, O\u2019Neill said he had a conversation with the analyst that captured the pressure both sides were carrying into the mission.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018Hey why are you nervous?\u2019\u201d O\u2019Neill recalled asking.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd she looked at me and said like, \u2018Why aren\u2019t you nervous?\u2019 \u201cI was like oh, we do s**t like this every day, fly somewhere and fuck s**t up, but on this one, you have to be right, this is gonna be a longer flight for you than it will be for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Just like the woman said\u2019<\/h2>\n

After the chopper landed, SEAL Team Six entered the darkened\u00a0compound<\/a>, quickly searching room after room for the notorious terrorist.<\/p>\n

\u201cDown the long hallway there was a stairwell. The CIA analyst said [Osama\u2019s adult son] Khalid bin Laden would definitely be on it and if you can ace him, you get a shot at the big guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Neill said Khalid was exactly where the analyst predicted he would be: \u201cJust like the woman said.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the team pushed deeper inside, they spotted movement behind a curtain where a door should have been.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thought they were suicide bombers,\u201d O\u2019Neill said. \u201cWe went through that curtain, and he moved them out of the way. They turned out to be Bin Laden\u2019s wives.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
