The room was silent, but inside my head everything was loud. A rush of fear, disgust, and confusion crashed all at once as I stared at the tiny, twisted thing in my palm. I checked the cup, the kettle, the table\u2014desperately searching for an explanation that didn\u2019t make my skin crawl. Nothing. No clues, no trail, just me and this soft, shapeless creature that had just been in my mouth.<\/p>\n

For a while I couldn\u2019t even move; my imagination did the rest. Parasite? Larva? Something growing in the water? Only when I forced myself to really look did the truth finally land: just a small gnat, swollen and softened by the hot tea. Harmless, ordinary, almost pathetic. And yet, that discovery didn\u2019t erase the feeling.
