{"id":4429,"date":"2026-04-21T02:09:49","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T02:09:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thetwistzone.com\/?p=4429"},"modified":"2026-04-21T02:09:49","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T02:09:49","slug":"trumps-justice-department-launches-criminal-probe-into-letitia-james-multiple-sources-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thetwistzone.com\/?p=4429","title":{"rendered":"Trump\u2019s Justice Department launches criminal probe into Letitia James, multiple sources say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than a year after\u00a0<span class=\"link\">New York Attorney General Letitia James<\/span>\u00a0won a half-billion dollar civil fraud case against President Trump, the Justice Department under Mr. Trump has launched a criminal fraud probe targeting James, multiple sources familiar with the investigation told CBS News.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1850590\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Federal Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York John A. Sarcone III told the Albany Times-Union that the investigation was \u201cbeing handled at this time by main [Department of] Justice and the Albany FBI field office.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Lowell sent a letter to the Department of Justice refuting the allegations laid out in Pulte\u2019s letter. In a letter to Bondi, Lowell called the allegations \u201clong-disproven\u201d and the investigation, \u201cthe latest act of improper political retribution \u2014 this time directed at Ms. James \u2014 publicly instigated and endorsed by President Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In February 2024, a New York judge ordered Mr. Trump, his company and two of his adult sons to pay the State of New York about $364 million. The figure, with interest accumulated over more than a decade, currently totals more than $500 million.
