We know there are seven castaways, but in two shots, you can spot an eighth person on the boat! The explanation? Stand-ins were used to film these wide shots. The real actors weren\u2019t actually on the boat, so extras stepped in to make it look authentic. Kennedy in November 1963. To land the role, Hale went to great lengths \u2014 literally! He was filming a western in Utah when he got the casting call for Gilligan. He snuck off on horseback, hitchhiked to Las Vegas, flew to L.A., and made it just in time for his audition. His determination paid off, beating tough competition like Carroll O\u2019Connor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Advertisement<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Natalie Schafer\u2019s Accidental Slip<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In one episode, Mrs. Howell, played by Natalie Schafer, pretends to be passed out after drinking fermented berry juice. But during the scene, if you look closely, you\u2019ll see her briefly open her eyes!
