Do\u00f1a Mar\u00eda (Brazil) was part of the charitable program of the NGO Opera\u00e7\u00e3o Sorriso, which provides free surgeries to low-income people who were born with a cleft lip or cleft palate; the result of her operation was so good that she even won a photo session with a professional photographer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The dream of\u00a0Do\u00f1a Mar\u00eda<\/strong>, a 67-year-old woman from\u00a0Umarizal (Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil)<\/strong>, was quite simple: she did not ask for money or high pensions for her old age, nor a new house for herself or her family, nor anything of that sort.\u00a0She only wanted to paint her lips.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It turns out that the woman was born with a cleft lip, which is the joining of the right and left sides of the palate during gestation. She suffered all her life because of this condition, but she never thought that at her age she could change that fate.<\/h2>\n

The volunteer medical organization\u00a0Opera\u00e7\u00e3o Sorriso<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u201dOperation Smile\u201d in Spanish\u2014 travels throughout Brazilian territory, performing\u00a0reconstructive surgeries for cleft lip and cleft palate for those who do not have the money to pay for them.<\/strong>\u00a0They are present in 32 different countries and, to date, have performed\u00a0more than 300 thousand free operations around the planet<\/strong>\u00a0thanks to voluntary donations.<\/p>\n

Do\u00f1a Mar\u00eda was one of those who benefited from the mission of\u00a0Opera\u00e7\u00e3o Sorriso,\u00a0<\/em>undergoing surgery in 2016<\/strong>\u00a0in the nearby town of Mossor\u00f3. The result was so satisfactory that the woman even\u00a0won a photo session to show off her new upper lip<\/strong>; in the photos she appears with her lips painted red,\u00a0and wow, does she look beautiful!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are many people in the world who\u00a0were born with a cleft lip and did not have it operated on<\/strong>, learning to live with their condition. But few decide to do that, since\u00a0in a large number of cases people are ashamed to show such an obvious malformation and, in addition, it affects their self-esteem.<\/strong><\/p>\n
